World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is an agency under the United Nations with a membership of 193 countries and territories. It facilitates free and unrestricted exchange of data and information, products, and services in real- or near-real time on matters relating to safety and security of society, economic welfare, and the protection of the environment. In 2014, WMO started a project, the High-Quality Global Data Management Framework for Climate (HQ-GDMFC), with the goal to improve climate data quality. The framework was endorsed by the WMO Congress member countries in 2019 with 3 components: A Manual, the first of its kind for climate data, that provides best practices and standards for climate data quality, a self-assessment tool to assess the quality of the management of datasets and a WMO Climate Data Catalogue where these assessed datasets can be accessed with metadata and visualization tools. This presentation was given at the ESIP Summer Meeting held online in July 2020.
