Metadata Extraction at NCAR's Research Data Archive

<div>The Research Data Archive at NCAR holds a diverse collection of weather and climate datasets, in many gridded and station observation data formats. As part of the routine archiving of data files, the RDA extracts "content" metadata from the data files, including date range, parameters/variables, vertical levels, station locations, etc. These metadata are then used to populate a MySQL relational database that is the backbone for the RDA's data services. Some of these services include customized data file lists, large-dataset subsetting, OPeNDAP access, and OGC services. This was presented at the ESIP Winter Meeting in January 2019, during the "Community Curated Metadata Extractors" session.</div>
