Combining multiple elements of the global research infrastructure provides an opportunity to explore temporal relationships between connected datasets and articles and to identify and measure repository behaviors. Some repositories build collections by adding datasets associated with published papers (paper first), some repositories provide datasets for future papers (data first), and some repositories create datasets along with papers (paper = data). This also allows us to identify “re-use stars”, those datasets that are reused many times over many years. These capabilities will be applied to repositories managed by members of the ESIP community.
