Relationship between environmental variability and community synchrony in freshwater macroinvertebrates

We calculated community synchrony for 18 headwater macroinvertebrate communities in the continental US using data from the National Ecological Observatory Network. We also calculated temperature and stream discharge variability and species turnover across a time period from 2014-2022. We found that increasing temperature variability and species turnover was negatively related to community synchrony.
