This poster presents the story of the ITCOocean Hack2Week in September 2023  that was supported by an ESIP FundDay award. This event brought together 50 marine scientists from across India and Bangladesh to Hyderabad, India and to the International Training Centre for Operational Oceanography (ITCOocean). Two weeks of Open Science training in GitHub, R and Python, team skills for open collaboration, and geospatial big data tools. This was the kick-off event for a UN Decade of the Ocean early career scientist capacity building initiative for the Indian Ocean Rim. This is also the story of many threads coming together woven by people, including at the ESIP 2023 summer meeting, who believe in the idea of open science, that all should have access to knowledge and tools, and who believe that individuals can create real value by dedicating themselves to this ideal and embracing openness and new ideas. This poster was presented at the 2024 July ESIP Meeting in Asheville, NC (July 22-26, 2024).
