Data citations are valuable for understanding how data products and services are being used. Citations of POPGRID data products are explored in terms of the data citations that are accessible online with the data as of August 2019. Citations of the following gridded population data products are included in the pilot study: Gridded Population of the World (GPW), version 4; Global Human Settlement Layer – Population (GHS-POP); Global Rural Urban Mapping Project (GRUMP), Version 1; History Database of the Global Environment (HYDE) Population Grids, version 3.1; LandScan Global Population Database; and World Population Estimate; and WorldPop.
